Field of Remembrance Parade
Today the Chairman and Secretary represented the members of the Inns of Court and City of London Yeomanry who died during World War 1 at the Field of Remembrance outside Westminster Abbey. Our thanks to members of the Association, Black Brogue, DOSC and Wives, who supported the event by parading behind the two plots. This year there were 36 individual crosses laid by family members of the fallen, which is an increase of 12 from last year.
I look forward to seeing all members at the AGM on Saturday

ICCY Car Badges wanted

The Museum has received the following request from JR Gaunt, the well-known badge manufacturers:
"We are trying to acquire examples of the two car badges attached for the J R Gaunt car badge archive. Unfortunately our pattern book was lost to fire in 1993 and we are trying to recreate it.
"We would like to purchase one of each of the two badges (which are different). Is there any way that you would be able to contact former members of the Regiment who might have these badges (or the widows thereof), perhaps by email, a blog or a Regimental newsletter, to try and find if anyone has one (or both) that they would be willing to dispose of?
"Any help that you could give with this would be most appreciated."

DEVIL’S OWN SERGEANTS' CLUB
THE JULY/AUGUST NEWSLETTER
Dear Member,
The 412th meeting of the DOSC was held on Tuesday 19 July 2011.
The president Bob Lane opened the meeting at 2012hrs. Sadly again the meeting commenced with a minute’s silence this month in memory of Brian Bailey.
R I P BRIAN BAILEY
The Celebration for the life of Brian Bailey was held at Harlow Crematorium on 18th July, and as a measure of that life over a hundred of his friends attended the celebration.
An appreciation given by his lifelong friend Chris Ford raised a few smiles from the congregation.
The Club provided a standard-bearer and escort, and John Spencer blew the Last Post and Reveille.
Seven DOSC members attended.
The Club members who attended would like to thank Steve Scally, who organized a mini-bus, collected us at Harlow station and drove us to the various locations on the day. Well done Steve - you have earned your mention in dispatches.

PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE CLUB RULES
I would like to thank those members who returned their voting slips. There was almost a total swing towards one of the options, but as only a third of the membership responded the committee felt this number was not enough to go ahead with the change. It will be looked at again at a future AGM.
ACTIVITIES
Turning now to the Club’s activities over the last two months. A number of members with members of the Association attended the rehearsal of the Royal Chelsea Hospital Founders Day. The full complement of ‘in’ pensioners were on parade supported by the band of the Welsh Guards.
The pensioners march at a sedate 90 paces to the minute which is in contrast to their speed of movement after the parade dismissal, which we put down to the fact that the bar opened immediately after the parade!
After the dismissal the Club members and friends moved to our adopted pub for a longish pub lunch.
We greatly underestimated the demand for tickets so apologies to those who did not get to attend this year. We will get it right for 2012.
50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE INNS OF COURT AND CITY YEOMANRY
On Saturday 9th July we celebrated the anniversary of the amalgamation of the Inns of Court (The Devils Own) and City Yeomanry (The Rough Riders)
The Squadron and Association paraded at the War Memorial in Lincolns Inn where they were given an address by the Padre Major Nick Leviseur who as usual gained attention from a well aimed opening shot. After the ceremonies were over, the parade marched off to Stone Buildings where Silver Devils were presented to Tony Shipton the outgoing Chairman and to Tom Taylor the outgoing Secretary in recognition of the splendid service they had both provided whilst in office.
The parade was then dismissed and we made off to the North Lawn and BBQ where there was plenty to eat for all and the bar never ran dry. However the weather did run dry and we extremely lucky never having to run for the shelter provided just in case.
FORTHCOMING EVENTS
